Back on the grind. Notes: Chapter 8

Chapter 8: Interpersonal Relationship Stages and Theories
All I am thinking about right now is MTV's "Friend Zone" :)

Relationship Stages:
-Contact: perceptual, interactions
-Involvement: testing, intensifying
-Intimacy: interpersonal commitment, social bonding
-Deterioration: intrapersonal dissatisfaction, interpersonal dissatisfaction
-Repair: intrapersonal repair, interpersonal repair
-Dissolution: interpersonal separation, social/public separation

Contact: you see what the person looks like, you hear what the person sounds like (you get a physical picture of them)
Involvement: the feelings of being connected develops
Intimacy: feeling that you can be honest and open when talking about yourself
Deterioration: weakening of bonds between parties
Repair: analyzing what went wrong and attempting to fix it 
-Recognize the problem
-Engage in productive conflict resolution
-Pose possible solutions
-Affirm each other
-Integrate solutions
-Risk giving
Dissolution: cutting the bonds
-Break the loneliness-depression cycle
-Take time out
-Bolster self-esteem
-Seek the support of others
-Avoid repeating negative patterns

-Attraction Theory: forming relationships based on attraction

-Relationship Rules Theory: held together by adherence to certain rules

-Relationship Dialects Theory: relationship experiences dynamic tensions between pairs of opposing motives or desires
a. Closedness and Openness
b. Autonomy and Connection
c. Novelty and Predictability 
-Social Penetration Theory: what happens when relationships do develop
-Social Exchange Theory: relationships that will maximize your profits 
-Equity Theory:
